Zenyatta beats Blame in voting for 2010 Horse of the Year in North America
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — This time, Zenyatta beat Blame. Zenyatta was named North America's 2010 Horse of the Year at the Eclipse Awards on Monday night, besting the only horse ever to beat her on the racetrack. Zenyatta received 128 votes and Blame got 102. Goldikova, the other finalist, received five votes. Horse of the Year and the Eclipse Awards are voted on by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Daily Racing Form and National Turf Writers and Broadcasters. "Thank you, Zenyatta!" co-owner Jerry Moss said at the awards dinner. Blame, then a 4-year-old colt, defeated Zenyatta, then a 6-year-old mare, by a head in the Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. It was the lone loss in the 20-race career of Zenyatta, who was runner-up for Horse of the Year in 2008 and 2009. |
